Silver and Gold: Repurposed Pumpkin or Gourd for Christmas

I had some small pumpkins (real pumpkins, for the curious) left over from my Halloween/Fall decorating that I wanted to repurpose for the Christmas season.  At first, I was just going to use my Sharpie Paint marker in Silver to bling up the pumpkin.  I started tracing along the natural segment lines on the pumpkin but was unimpressed by the flat effect of the paint marker.  I wanted more dimension and bling.

I pulled out the glitter glue tubes/markers that I bought from the Dollar Tree- it was only $1 for a 10-pack of assorted colors!  I went over the Sharpie Paint lines with the silver glitter glue.  Then I made raised dots with the silver and gold glitter glue tubes.  I was a little disappointed that the raised globes of glitter flattened after drying, but I still loved the effect!

Because I needed to keep my 3 year old son from wrecking mommy's work, I also let him join in on the glitter fun with his own little pumpkin (no Sharpies for him though!)  I am proud that I showed restraint when he literally emptied each glitter tube onto his pumpkin (after all, they are only $1 for 10!!!)  Because the glitter is contained in the glue, it is not as messy as the loose glitter.  You also do not have to worry about random glitter specks on your face as you go about your day.

Check out my little guy's work of art!

Oatmeal Cookies and Memory Loss (Recipe 1)

I am in search of the perfect oatmeal cookie.  Really, it's all a matter of taste, so what may be perfect for me may not be for you.  I actually made a batch of the BEST-TASTING oatmeal cookies I ever ate about a couple of years ago.  Here is where the cruel irony and sad truth comes in -- I forget where I found the recipe and  I discovered there is a slow memory leak the closer you get to 40 years old (I am now 40.)

If you will, picture an inflatable bed (the kind you pull out for company).  Imagine how nice and plump it is at nightfall.

Now picture yourself waking up in the morning with your back on the floor and the air mattress enveloping and smothering you on all sides a la "hot dog effect."

SLOW LEAK...

Back to my point, memory and inflatable beds are alike in that one day everything has the illusion of being normal.  The leak is undetectable.  Then one day you find yourself lying on a cold, hard floor wondering what happened.

Anyways, I digress- back to the oatmeal cookies.  I thought maybe, just maybe, I found the recipe on the back of the Sun-Maid raisins package.  Feeling lucky, I whipped up a batch and.... they were NOT the best oatmeal cookies I ever ate but they were still pretty toothsome.  Click below for the recipe.
